- IHG Hotels & Resorts, in partnership with ISPT, plans to open InterContinental Brisbane in June.
- The property at 150 Elizabeth Street will be converted from the former Hilton Brisbane to a luxury hotel and dining destination.
IHG Hotels & Resorts, in collaboration with ISPT, is set to launch InterContinental Brisbane. The hotel, expected to open by late June, will be located at the 150 Elizabeth Street precinct, which ISPT currently manages.
Located in Brisbane’s CBD and connected to the bustling Queen Street Mall, the property is the only hotel in Australia designed by the acclaimed architect Harry Seidler, recognized for his contribution to Modernist architecture. ISPT’s vision for this precinct combines the hotel, Wintergarden, and the Regent Theatre into a single destination, offering a mix of retail, dining, entertainment, and hospitality.
The transformation of InterContinental Brisbane is projected to take two years. The process will incorporate elements from the InterContinental brand, such as innovation, diversity, and cultural discovery, while preserving Harry Seidler’s original designs. Upon completion, the hotel will feature 321 guest rooms, many of which will offer stunning views of the Brisbane skyline. The hotel will also house four upscale restaurants and bars and provide vast conference and event facilities.
Cameron Burke, Director of Development, Australasia & Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts, acknowledged the potential for growth in the Brisbane hotel market and the South East Queensland region, spurred by major infrastructure projects, a thriving tourism sector, and the upcoming 2032 Olympics.
InterContinental Brisbane will be the third InterContinental property in Queensland, following InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef and InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort. It forms part of IHG’s expansion in the luxury & lifestyle segment, which currently includes 21 hotels in Australasia, with five more in the pipeline. IHG Hotels & Resorts manages 69 hotels in Australasia under nine brands and has 26 more properties under development.
