The InterContinental Indianapolis, housed in the historic Illinois Building, has opened its doors following a $120 million restoration. It is the city’s first luxury hotel to debut in two decades. The property features 170 luxury rooms, two dining establishments led by award-winning Chef Craig Baker, and a unique penthouse suite with panoramic city views.
The InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, a part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle portfolio, has unveiled its newest property, the InterContinental Indianapolis. This hotel is located in the city’s heart, just steps from the iconic Monument Circle and the Indiana State Capitol.
The hotel, the city’s first luxury opening in 20 years, boasts 170 guest rooms and suites. These are complemented by two new dining experiences led by award-winning Chef Craig Baker. These include the city’s first rooftop bar and Hyde Park, a high-end steakhouse. The hotel offers 5,000 square feet of meeting and event space and the city’s only penthouse suite on a private floor with a stunning view of Monument Circle.
The property, situated in the 100-year-old Illinois Building, was previously listed as one of Indiana’s 10 most endangered landmarks. The Keystone Group, a locally based owner and developer, purchased the building and completed construction in 2024. The revitalized property welcomed guests on February 20th, offering a refreshing urban sanctuary in the city’s hospitality landscape.
The hotel’s interior showcases a blend of historic and modern design. The grand brass entrance doors are accentuated by intricate grillwork against alabaster panels. The hotel exterior, composed mostly of the original Illinois Building’s architecture, combines granite and limestone with Moderne bas relief panels. Inside, details include bespoke Murano chandeliers, a three-story suspended hand-blown glass chandelier, and Italian marble in public spaces.
The 170 rooms and suites offer a sophisticated atmosphere. They feature luxury soft furnishings, 300-thread-count linens, and BeautyRest mattresses. All rooms feature walk-in showers, and select suites offer soothing soaking tubs. The hotel also provides in-room amenities such as Nespresso Machines, curated minibars, and BYREDO-scented bath amenities.
Chef Craig Baker oversees the hotel’s food and beverage offerings, including Astrea Rooftop Bar and Serliana. Astrea offers a unique city view, while Serliana serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu features elevated classics inspired by local favorites and the building itself.
InterContinental Indianapolis is poised to become a coveted venue for city events. With over 5,000 square feet of event space, including a 2,500-square-foot ballroom and an executive boardroom, the hotel caters to various occasions.
The hotel also offers a 24-hour fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment. InterContinental Indianapolis aims to serve as a cultural connector, providing personalized concierge services for guests.
