Jamie Lee Curtis is showing her support for David Krumholtz after the actor decided to put his acting career on hold, encouraging him to prioritize his mental health as he takes a step back from Hollywood.

Curtis, who described the entertainment industry as a “dangerous business,” left an encouraging message for Krumholtz after he opened up about the emotional toll of his decades-long acting career.

While Krumholtz has clarified that he is not retiring or quitting acting, he said he needs time to let the weight of the profession “heal” and figure out what comes next. Curtis used her message to point to the broader challenges facing artists, from changing technology to shrinking opportunities, while reminding Krumholtz that he is respected “as an artist and as a human.”

Curtis shared her support in the comments of Krumholtz’s Instagram post, pointing him toward a piece written by a close friend titled “This Is a Dangerous Business.”

She wrote that Hollywood is “a business in flux and shapeshifting in front of our eyes,” arguing that technology, the fallout from the pandemic and the “artistic corporatization” of the industry have contributed to many artists losing opportunities and hope.

“Protect your mental health and find your bliss and know that you are respected as an artist and as a human,” Curtis wrote.

Grateful for her words, Krumholtz replied, “Jamie. You know this means so much to me. Truly. I’m taking my personal power back like Mo’Nique! You and I come from good stock!”

A slew of other actors joined Curtis in showing support, including Judd Apatow, Wendi Mclendon-Covey, and Kerri Kenney-Silver. Actress Frances Fisher wrote, “Hey David, I quit every night and recommit in the morning. There’s so much more to do in the world than acting.” Krumholtz replied, “I’ve quit a thousand times myself. Just thinking I’ll step out for this very disheartening moment.”
