Jason Kelce had a candid moment of reflection while talking about his brother Travis’ retirement plans during a recent podcast appearance.
Fans of the Kelce brothers have been wondering over the last several weeks whether the 2024 NFL season would turn out to be the Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s last—chatter that intensified after Travis and his team lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, Jason’s former team, in Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9.

As of Friday, Feb. 21, Travis hadn’t made any formal announcements regarding whether he intends to retire or return to the Chiefs for another NFL season. Jason was asked if he had any insight into his brother’s decision-making process during the latest episode of The Steam Room podcast, which dropped on Friday.
Jason, 37, reflected on his own retirement from the NFL last year while chatting with sports commentator Ernie Johnson and former basketball star Charles Barkley, who host The Steam Room together. The former Eagles center said he “wrestled” with his retirement decision “for three to four years” and talked with his younger brother about his inner deliberations “a lot” before he finalized his plan.

When Johnson asked Jason if he believes Travis will similarly talk through his own retirement decision when the time comes, the father of three said he is “sure we will talk about it.”
“We’ve already talked about it a little bit, and I’m sure he’s going to go through a process of figuring that out,” he said. Jason then contrasted his own habit of “overanalyzing” with Travis’ black and white approach to making decisions.
“My brother has this way of being like, ‘Hey man, you want to play or you don’t want to play,’” Jason explained. “I think that he has a way of thinking about things that just way simplifies what I’m making it out to be. And, nine times out of 10, he’s right about all of it.”
Jason joked that he is “way overanalyzing his decision for” his brother before revealing that he suspects Travis has already made his own.
“I think he probably, in his heart, already knows what he wants to do,” Jason said. “That’s the reality of it.”
