“Crying all the way through this one!! Bringing the GOOD WORD to ABC PRIMETIME AMERICAN IDOL! Amazing!” wrote one fan, while another wrote, “Jelly Roll is proof that God has a plan for everyone of us!!! Stand up and announce your love for Jesus.. be a light !!”
“Hard Fought Hallelujah” is a song that keeps giving. Lake, who was already a star in the Christian music genre, originally released his solo version last November and it crossed over to the Billboard Hot 100, giving the singer his first mainstream hit. But that wasn’t all, the song was revived with a bit more of a rock feel, as a duet with Jelly Roll. It was that version the duo performed on the Idol stage that had fans going wild.
Even former Idol competitor Colton Dixon weighed in. “Come on!!!! Love this. If you would’ve told me 13 years ago there’d be a worship night on idol I’m not sure I would’ve believed you, but boy am I glad it happened. Well done boys @jellyroll615@brandonlake,” he wrote.
One fan suggested that Lake duet with another established country star and American Idol judge. “We need a collab with Brandon & Carrie [Underwood]!!!! Please!!!!!!” they wrote.
Still another was just happy that Lake added some Jelly to the song. “I’m so glad Brandon added Jelly Roll to this song, it was written for them to sing it together 🙌.”
