Jesse Eisenberg leaves staff at a Toronto restaurant totally starstruck

9 July 20253 Mins Read

The staff at one Toronto restaurant were shocked this week when they got a surprise visit from Oscar-nominated actor Jesse Eisenberg.

Though the actor is well-known for his Oscar-nominated performance in 2010’s The Social Network, as well as more recent successes like A Real Pain (2024), for which he received an Oscar nomination for best screenplay, it appears as though Eisenberg isn’t afraid to hit the streets of whatever city he’s in and explore the local food scene.

At least, that appears to be the case for him when he’s in Toronto, as the actor recently made a surprise visit to West Queen West’s Curryish Tavern, leaving the restaurant’s owner and staff starstruck.

Widely recognized as being among the best Indian restaurants in the city, it might come as no surprise that the stars would opt to spend their hard-earned days off there — but for owner Miheer Shete, it most certainly did.

Miheer tells us that, prior to Eisenberg’s appearance at the restaurant, he got a call from the concierge at the actor’s hotel, who told Miheer that the group was in the mood for an Indian feast and made a reservation.

“I was a bit nervous when they made the reservation,” Miheer says, “but when they came to the restaurant, they were super low-key people and were extremely friendly with our staff.”

Eisenberg, who stopped by the restaurant with his wife, daughter, and a friend who lives in Toronto, even took the time to pose for a photo with Miheer and a handful of other diners who found themselves in the right place at the right time.

“They were so amazing, gracious, and down-to-earth people,” says Miheer, adding that he found the group to be “extremely humble,” and telling us that he and the actor even had a great chat about Indian food, Toronto, and New York City.

Of course, the stuff sitting on the table is more important than the conversation happening around it, and Miheer explains that they ordered their House-Made Cheese Curd Samosa, Asparagus Salad, Green Tomato Butter Chicken, Coconut-Stuffed Branzino, Dosa, and Coconut Cardamom Pudding for dessert.

It seems as though the meal was a hit, too, because Miheer tells us that, as the party got up to leave, “they said they will be back the next time they’ll be in the city.”

Curryish Tavern is located at 783 Queen St. W.
