Wearing a pair of pants might not seem like a bold fashion choice, but making the switch from skirts and dresses was a huge step forJinger Duggar.
On the Wednesday, April 16 episode of the Jinger & Jeremy podcast, the 31-year-old Counting On alum was joined by husband Jeremy Vuolo and sister Joy-Anna Duggar for a discussion about what it was like being raised to dress modestly.

As Jinger recalled, it was “so normal” for her and her sisters — as well as mom Michelle Duggar — to follow strict rules regarding what they wore that she didn’t think much about it as a kid.
“You kind of start to not think twice about it until you are surrounded with other people who are conducting their lives differently…and then that’s something where you start to think more about, ‘OK, why do I do what I do?’” she said.
“To me, it was a big deal when somebody that always wore skirts started wearing pants,” Joy-Anna, 27, recalled. “Then I was like, ‘Oh, well they know better.’ That was my attitude behind it.”
Jinger remembered feeling similarly to her sister.
“I remember when a couple close friends started wearing pants and I was, like, so brokenhearted over it,” she said. “I remember crying over one friend just thinking, ‘Why are they doing that?’ Without even asking or hearing them out as to why.”
While both sisters wear pants regularly today, Joy-Anna pointed out that she didn’t feel particularly limited by her wardrobe as a child.
“Nothing held me back,” she said. “If I wanted to ride a bike, if I wanted to do anything, I could. I don’t have any, like, ‘Oh man, that was horrible.’”
