About Theatre Network
Theatre Network produces contemporary theatre with an emphasis on Canadian playwrights and stories, with a 52-year tenure of serving Edmonton. • Showcases visual art at the Miller Art Gallery.
  • Hosts other programming from independent artists in Edmonton, throughout the season.

  • Operates the Theatre Network Summer Academy, a theatre intensive for high school and junior high school students.

About The Roxy
Theatre Network reopened our brand new facility, the Roxy Theatre, in 2022. Our facility houses two performance venues: the Nancy Power Theatre, a 200-seat proscenium theatre, and the Lorne Cardinal Theatre, an 80-seat black box. The building is also home to Miller Art Gallery, a rehearsal hall and a small shop facility.

We Are Looking For
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Production & Facilities is a full-time, permanent role and core member of our team. We are looking for a colleague who is passionate about Theatre Network’s creative vision for all of our programming, from our Mainstage theatre productions to our additional hosted programming and visual art gallery. The successful candidate will prioritize mentorship, inclusivity, and creative risk, while taking pride in their work and the operations of the building as a whole. An effective communicator who believes in an alignment of the creative, technical, and administrative teams is at the top of our list.

The Job

  • Acts as production manager for each of the company’s mainstage productions, for the company’s presentation of Nextfest, and for other activity as required.
  • Manage a team of contract technicians in a non-union environment, including hiring, training, professional development and scheduling.
  • Authorize production purchases, in line with show and season budgets.
  • Oversee construction and install of scenic elements.
  • With the Visual Art Curator, manages the install, hang, and turnover of visual art exhibits in the Miller Art Gallery.
  • Work with the team to facilitate positive experiences for renters and guests using our facility.
  • Supervise all production elements in the theatre spaces, and throughout the building (including Echo, QSYS, and BrightSign systems).
  • Communicates effectively with their production staff, facility contractors, and with other members of the Theatre Network team.
  • Oversees venue & production health and safety policy, training, and procedures. Ensure venues and production designs comply with appropriate regulations and fosters a culture of safety.
  • Oversee facility mechanical and electrical systems to ensure safe and efficient working order. Perform some basic maintenance, and liaise with service providers on specialized maintenance as required.

Skills/Qualifications

  • 3-5 years minimum experience in Production Management or Technical Direction, including a strong understanding of:
  • Lighting, sound, and video systems,
  • AutoCAD
  • Theatre Health and Safety.
  • Familiarity with day-to-day venue operations of a theatre facility.
  • Design skills would be an asset.
  • Strong communication/leadership qualities, including a wealth of experience leading teams in a production environment.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a small team environment and be committed to enthusiastically solving problems as a team.
Evening/weekend/holiday hours, as required by production schedules/events.

Remuneration/Conditions

  • Position is full-time, 37.5 hours/week on average. Heavier weeks are offset by time in lieu.
  • Starting salary is $55,000 – negotiable, based on experience.
  • Health/dental benefits package.
  • 3 weeks vacation, plus 1 week holiday closure.

This position requires occasional heavy lifting, working at heights, and in some locations that are not accessible by users of mobility aids. For more information about specific duties, please reach out to us.
