Do you thrive being in a tech booth? Always interested in what it might be like to run lights and sound for a live theatre show? Jubilations is looking for an Understudy House Technician who can orchestrate the magic of the stage, ensuring sure every light cue, sound effect, mic entrance and flow seamlessly.
As an Understudy House Technician, you would have set training days for each show, have scheduled dates to run the show for the MainStage Show and Junior Show Technicians and be available on an on-call basis. There are 10 shows a year, two shows running simultaneously: one MainStage Show (Wed-Sun evening show) and one Junior show (mostly just Saturday performances, more added when needed)
As our Understudy House Technician, your job would include:
– Training: There’d be 3-5 days of training for MainStage Shows within the first two weeks of opening as well as 2-4 days of training for Junior Shows during the tech week and opening.
– Being available for performances: Understudy Techs would not be scheduled all the time but would need to be available to potentially work Wednesdays-Sundays @ 4pm-11pm and weekends Sat (some Sun) @ 10am-3pm. Some of those dates would be scheduled but some would be short notice. Sparse blockout dates of unavailability are acceptable.
– Doing homework: Training is fast and furious. It’s up to you to continue to refine your skills on your own, be it general skills or the show-specific needs. There will also be time after training before the closing of the show, so a casual review of the materials in that time is best, in case you are needed.
We are willing to train, but a bonus if a candidate demonstrates on their resume:
– Experience dealing technically with live theatre, live bands and/or studio sound
– Experience reading a tech script and executing cues
– Experience dealing with the following:
– QLab5
– LS9 Digital Sound Board
– ETC Lx Board
– Countryman Headset Mics
– Sound EQ
– Live Audio Mixing
– Soldering
– Lx Hanging/Focusing
– Mover/IQ Lx Fixture Programming
During the interview process, we will be looking for behaviours that demonstrate:
– Ability to handle pressure and think quickly
– Ability to focus on tasks in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities
– Solid attention to detail and the ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
– Ability to work unsupervised
– Ability to troubleshoot and execute solutions
What’s in it for you?
– Be part of a team that fosters a fun, friendly and exciting environment
– Pay is hourly for training and MainStage show running, but is per-show for any Junior shows run.
– Staff discounts and free tickets
