“Two days before Ozzy’s final show I was in an airport in Sicily with Caitlin and Bubbles and all of our bags in tow. Our flight to Birmingham had just been cancelled and due to the protests in France, we couldn’t get a flight to Paris in order to drive through the tunnel to the show from there,” Manganiello began his message. “The only option was a flight that got us into Munich later on that night. We had no choice. When we landed, I rented a car at the airport and drove 3.5 hours that night to the home of my German ancestors: Heilbronn. The next day we debated our options none of which seemed like they could get us through the tunnel and into England in time for the start of the show. “
Manganiello went on to add, “Regardless, we decided to say f–k it and just drove through Germany and Belgium to Northern France Griswold style. We wound up almost running out of gas in an endless farmland in Belgium due to none of our credit cards working at any of the automated pumps after hours at five different gas stations, other drivers only having company credit cards, and the police station and hospital in the town being closed. I eventually handed a fistful of euros to a Good Samaritan who let us pay him in cash to use his credit card and off we went to Dunkirk, where we spent the night and after four hours of sleep, drove the rest of the way to Birmingham. We showered, ate, put Bubbles into her playpen and made it just in time to walk in with Sharon and Jack.”
The story ended happily with Manganiello having the honor and pleasure of seeing Osbourne one last time. It was a moment the actor will never forget and in light of Osbourne’s death one that means more than ever to Manganiello.
“Nothing was going to stop us from seeing Ozzy one last time… one last time. Damn. It’s hard to fathom that. He stayed alive just long enough for that last show and we all got to share it with him. The man lived a hell of a life and it makes me happy knowing he ultimately got to go out like that, I’m so lucky I got to say goodbye… RIP OZZY,” Manganiello ended his tribute.
