‘Judge Judy’ Sheindlin Announces Major Career News Marking End of an Era

“Judge Judy” Sheindlin is stepping away from her TV show Judy Justice—as well as television in general—and she’s passing the gavel to her son, Adam Levy, who will star in his own series.

In an interview with People published on Wednesday, Sept. 9, the former Judge Judy star, 83, opened up about her decision to wrap up the on-camera part of her career.

Sheindlin’s Prime Video show Judy Justice will end in October, marking the end of an era.

“I have a lot of other things of interest,” she told People, including naps, quality time with family, and developing her adult animated series Baby Judge Judy. “I don’t want to do hair and makeup anymore, but I still want my message to get out there.”

Additionally, Sheindlin will keep busy behind the camera producing a show starring her son, 58, called Adam’s Law.

“There aren’t a lot of people who can carry a half hour on their own unscripted,” she declared. “He has what it takes.” 

Judge Judy aired for 25 Seasons from 1996 to 2021; it followed Sheindlin’s witty (and often intimidating) small claims court rulings. In November 2021, Judy Justice premiered on Prime Video. However, it will end with Season 4 on Oct. 22.

 “I don’t think that I’ve ever been this content before,” Sheindlin told People. “I don’t have to prove anything else. I did it.”

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, a special titled Judge Judy: Unfiltered, Unforgettable will air from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
