Julia Louis-Dreyfus has sported a variety of looks for her famous characters, but the star’s striking new gray hair for her role on Broadway may be one of her best.

The legendary actress, 65, got her start on Saturday Night Live before becoming a household name thanks to her iconic role as Elaine Benes on Seinfeld. She went on to earn acclaim for The New Adventures of Old Christine, and scored even more awards (and endless laughs) as the legendary Selina Meyer on HBO’s Veep. Now, the dark-haired beauty is trying something else out, sporting gray hair for her role on Broadway in “Other Desert Cities” alongside West Wing and The Diplomat queen Allison Janney. In a new selfie showing the duo getting ready backstage before the show, Louis-Dreyfus sports a chin-length gray hairdo that works great for her. Let’s face it: the woman can do no wrong.

After years on TV, Louis-Dreyfus was looking for a role that combined comedy and depth.

“My ambition is to find really juicy, tasty material for me to play with,” she told the New York Times. “I want to have that connection, with not only the actors, but also with an audience, which feels like an opportunity for a very intimate, creative, not-to-be-repeated experience,” she said. “I was craving it.”

Louis-Dreyfus Has Faced Cancer and Losing Her Home

It’s not as if the last few years haven’t been challenging enough for Louis-Dreyfus. The star was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017 while filming the final season of Veep. After concluding treatment, she headed right back to set. But she also faced a setback recently after she and her family ( she has two adult kids, Henry and Charlie) lost their home in last year’s Pacific Palisades fire. They chose to relocate to her husband’s hometown of Santa Barbara.

“I did not see that coming,” she told the Times, noting that she has visited the site briefly. “It’s pretty hard. I mean, there’s nothing.”
