‘Kaiju No. 8’ Season 2 Is Coming to Netflix… But Only in Select Regions in Asia

19 June 20253 Mins Read

Great news for anime fans, Kaiju No. 8 season 2 is coming to Netflix in July 2025! Unfortunately, the release of the highly anticipated second season will be restricted to select regions in Asia only.

Kaiju No. 8 is a Japanese anime series and adaptation of the manga Kaijū Hachigō by author Naoya Matsumoto, and produced by renowned studio Production IG. The growth of the franchise has been explosive, having started its manga circulation in July 2020, and it has since sold over 18 million copies by March 2025.

The Japanese Defense Force is tasked with protecting Japan from Kaiju, giant monsters who wreak havoc on the populace. Kafka Hibino failed his exams numerous times to join the JDF, and thus works as a member of the cleanup crew. Still, when a mysterious tiny monster flies into his mouth, Kafka gains the ability to transform into a kaiju. Dubbed by the JDF as “Kaiju No.8,” Kafka retains his humanity, and to help humans against the kaiju, he joins the JDF, where his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro, is a renowned commander. However, he decides to keep his abilities a secret.

Where is Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 streaming on Netflix?

Netflix confirmed in a tweet through its Netflix Anime handle that Kaiju No. 8 season 2 is coming to the streaming service. Still, it will only be available in select regions of Asia.

Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 makes its way onto Netflix on July 19th in select regions of Asia.

Which regions? At the very least, the series will be available to stream weekly on Netflix Japan. As for the other regions, it remains unclear. However, the first season was previously available to stream on Netflix weekly in the following regions:

  • Hong Kong.
  • Indonesia.
  • Japan.
  • Malaysia.
  • Phillippines.
  • Singapore.
  • South Korea.
  • Taiwan.
  • Thailand.
  • Vietnam.

The anime has been removed from the libraries of some of the regions listed above, with South Korea and Japan being notable exceptions. The anime will likely be available to stream in those regions from July 19. The best way to check whether the anime is coming to your region weekly is by checking the landing page here.

Outside of these regions, the only way to access the title on Netflix would be through a reliable VPN. However, there is no guarantee that the anime will have subtitles available for your region, including English subtitles.

Will Kaiju No. 8 come to Netflix US?

At the time of writing, Kaiju No. 8 is only available to stream on Netflix in the US and on Crunchyroll, where the second season will also be simulcast. However, it’s simply a waiting game, and there’s no clear answer on whether the anime will land on Netflix US.

Considering how popular the show is right now, at best, we’re likely at least two or three years away from seeing the first season licensed to Netflix US.

For the foreseeable future, you can catch Kaiju No.8 on Crunchyroll.
