Kelly Clarkson made a special shoutout to Dave Grohl during her latest “Kellyoke” segment of her talk show.
During the Thursday, April 3 episode of her eponymous talk show, Clarkson, 42, took on the classic Foo Fighters hit “Learn to Fly” while telling the band’s lead singer how she really feels about the song.

“Really love these lyrics, Dave,” read the caption on the video, which was posted to The Kelly Clarkson ShowInstagram page on Thursday. The post also included the hashtag, “#ikykyk” which stands for “if you know, you know,” signaling that Clarkson might have been sending Grohl a deeper message with her song choice.
In fact, Clarkson’s inside joke appeared to be a reference to a conversation she had with Grohl on her show a few years prior, where she was gushing over his profound lyrics to “Learn to Fly”—only for him to let her know the lyrics actually aren’t that deep.

“I don’t wanna burst your bubble,” the Foo Fighters frontman, 56, told Clarkson during their conversation back in 2021. “At the time, I wanted to become a pilot.”
Clarkson, who just got done explaining her abstract and metaphorical perception of the song’s lyrics, was instantly thrown off by Grohl’s confession, causing her to get out of her chair and let out a scream.
“I’m sorry!” Grohl told her, while the American Idol winner added, “Oh my god. It’s so literal.”
But now, Clarkson seems to have come to terms with the simple meaning behind Grohl’s song, and it didn’t stop her from singing her heart out during the segment.
“She can sing anything 🙌,” one of the “Breakaway” singer’s fans commented on Thursday’s clip.
“Rock Kelly is my favorite ❤️🤘,” another fan added, while someone else chimed in to say, “New Kelly rock album, I BEG!”
