KFC's Wildly Popular International Menu Item Finally Hits the US, and Fans Say It's 'So Good'

18 March 20253 Mins Read

KFC just introduced its first new bucket in nearly a decade, and it includes an international favorite making its first-ever appearance in the United States: Mashed Potato Poppers.

The brand-new Dunk It Bucket, priced starting at $7, includes hand-breaded Original Recipe Tenders, Secret Recipe Fries, Mashed Potato Poppers and sauce on the side. A Double Dunk It Bucket can also be purchased for $25, as well as a limited-time offering of KFC Dunk It merch, which includes a mini basketball hoop, stickers and apparel.

KFC

On March 17, KFC officially announced the arrival of the Dunk It Bucket via a press release that also highlighted the arrival of Mashed Potato Poppers to US menus. As some of you may already know, Mashed Potato Poppers were a huge hit in Australian markets, making their first appearance over 12 years ago under the name “Mashies.” The popular side dish then experienced a decade-long absence before returning briefly to Australian menus in 2023.

Naturally, fans of the uniquely bite-sized potato poppers have been calling for their return for years, however, those down under might be disappointed to learn that the fan-favorite snack is set to hit U.S. markets. The new Mashed Potato Poppers are described as creamy mashed potatoes, golden fried for the perfect crunchy bite, and they will be available either with the Dunk It Bucket or à la carte as a 5-count with a side of warm gravy.

“Our new Mashed Potato Poppers transform a legendary KFC classic into a crunchy can’t-resist bite of perfection,” President of KFC U.S. Catherine Tan-Gillespie said. “And the Dunk It Bucket? Oh, it’s a dream come true for sauce lovers—dip it, dunk it, drench it, do your thing,” Tan-Gillespie continued, “It’s our first brand-new bucket in nearly a decade, and trust me, it was so worth the wait!”

With March Madness officially starting today, the timing of the new Dunk It Bucket and subsequent arrival of Mashed Potato Poppers could not be any better. Fans can either snag a solo Dunk It Bucket for $7, or feed the whole team with the $25 Double Dunk It Bucket, which includes 10 tenders, 2 fries, 10 mashed potato poppers, 6 sauces and 4 biscuits. The sauce lineup includes Warm Gravy, Comeback Sauce, Honey BBQ, Honey Mustard, Sticky Chicky Sweet and Sour Sauce, Classic Ranch and Buffalo Ranch.

Those of you who are already mapping out your closest KFC location, keep in mind that both the Dunk It Bucket and Mashed Potato Poppers will be available both in store and online. Fans can either order via KFC.com or on the KFC app for delivery or pickup. Additionally, those who partake in the KFC Rewards program can earn double points on any Dunk It Bucket order. Now that’s a deal we can all get behind.
