King Charles‘s cancer treatments will “be reduced” in the new year, the royal shared in a rare broadcast while spreading awareness for early screenings.
In a pre-recorded segment shown during the UK’s Channel 4’s Stand Up to Cancer special on Friday evening, the monarch, 77, shared the update in his cancer journey, following his 2024 diagnosis, and encouraged viewers to stay up to date on their check-ups.

“I know, too, what a difference [early detection] has made in my own case, enabling me to continue leading a full and active life, even while undergoing treatment,” he aded. “Indeed, today I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention, and adherence to ‘doctors’ orders,’ my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the New Year.”
“This milestone is both a personal blessing and a testimony to the remarkable advances that are being made in cancer care in recent years,” he added.
He also shared the news of the UK’s new online national screening checker, which “allows you to check whether you’re eligible for breast, bowel, or cervical cancer screenings.”
The appearance, a rare move for the royals who tend to keep personal matters private, comes nearly two years after it was publicly shared that he underwent a procedure for an enlarged prostate, which ultimately led to his diagnosis. Buckingham Palace has never disclosed specifics as to what kind of cancer he has.
“His majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer,” read a statement given to The Associated Press at the time.
However as time has gone on, King Charles has continued to make public appearances and, at time, has spoken candidly about his diagnosis.
In September, while speaking with cancer patients, the royal acknowledged that his recovery is “not too bad.”

As the holidays approach, plans for the royal family are business as usual as the monarch is expected to take part in their traditional Christmas morning walk to St. Mary Magdalene Church and record his holiday broadcast. However this year he will make it a point to spend more time with his family amid his current health status, an insider told Us Weekly earlier this month.
“Charles prioritizes duty, but he’s also a family man who knows his time is precious,” an insider told Us Weekly earlier this month. “He wants a special last Christmas in case it’s his last.”
