Legendary ’70s Rock Band Chooses Unexpected Pop Star for Biopic Role

5 June 20252 Mins Read

The upcoming KISS biopic, Shout It Out, is still in the early stages of production — but the filmmakers have already cast a surprising star in one of the lead roles.

According to Deadline on Thursday, June 5, pop superstar Nick Jonas has been tapped to play KISS frontman Paul Stanley.

The Jonas Brothers singer will reportedly do all his own vocals for the role, though the outlet noted he’ll need some time to “replicate the jet-engine vocals of Stanley.”

Jonas, 32, is best known as the youngest member of the Jonas Brothers alongside his siblings, Joe and Kevin.

Beyond his boyband fame, he’s built a solid career on the stage and screen. He’s appeared in Broadway productions like The Last Five Years, Les Misérables, Hairspray and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

On the big screen, Jonas has starred in blockbusters like Jumanji and the TV series Kingdom, further showcasing his range as a performer.

As for the film itself, Deadline reports that Shout It Out will focus on the formation of the iconic glitter rock band during the 1970s.

It will spotlight Stanley’s journey, noting that he didn’t fit the mold of a typical sex symbol frontman while growing up.

“I was deaf in one ear and had a slight deformity that made me look different,” Stanley reportedly once said. “I was this short, fat kid, and music became my salvation, a place to hide and dream. And when I played music, there were always girls around.”

Casting for the role of bassist Gene Simmons is reportedly still underway, with production expected to ramp up either late this year or in early 2026.

KISS first formed in New York City in the early ’70s and quickly rose to fame with their theatrical glam-rock style. Their legendary hits — including “Rock and Roll All Nite” and “Deuce” — remain fan favorites to this day.
