Legendary '90s Hitmakers Thrill Fans 'Absolutely Fantastic' Live Performance

24 June 20252 Mins Read

The crowd at Munich’s Olympiapark welcomed iconic Swedish pop-rock duo Roxette, now featuring Per Gessle and Lena Philipsson, as they took the stage for the Tollwood Festival. It was a night dedicated to ‘90s nostalgia, as the band launched into a setlist packed with fan favorites like “The Look” and “Dressed for Success.”

The festival’s Instagram post noted the audience was “wide awake from the very first moment” and sang along to every word. Instagram comments made it clear the deep connection to Roxette’s music hasn’t faded. The spirit of the band’s late vocalist Marie Fredriksson was also felt throughout the evening, as attendees relived the band’s ’80s and ’90s hits. The set weaved in classics such as “Sleeping In My Car,” “Listen To Your Heart,” and “It Must Have Been Love,” a journey through their most known tracks.

Roxette achieved international success, particularly during the late ’80s and the ’90s, becoming one of Sweden’s most commercially successful music acts. Their breakthrough came with the 1988 album Look Sharp!, which featured global hits such as “The Look” and “Listen to Your Heart.” The momentum continued into the ’90s with the release of Joyride in 1991, their most successful album to date, selling over 11 million copies worldwide. It yielded chart-toppers like its title track and “Fading Like a Flower (Every Time You Leave).”

The band further contributed to the sound of 90s pop with albums like Tourism (1992), largely recorded on the road, and Crash! Boom! Bang! (1994). Their songs frequently appeared on international charts, with “It Must Have Been Love” notably reaching number one in 1990 after its inclusion in the film Pretty Woman.

Fan quickly flooded the festival’s Instagram post to praise the Munich concert. Comments included “An absolutely fantastic concert! What a crowd!” and “It was amazing last night.” Attendees highlighted the experience of hearing Roxette’s hits performed live, with remarks such as “A wonderful concert 🥰 Great to hear all Roxette hits live again.”
