Legendary Singer Some Thought Would Never Perform Again Wows Fans at Metal Fest by ‘Getting Better With Time’

5 July 20252 Mins Read

Back in September 2023, Aerosmith postponed and later canceled their “Peace Out” farewell tour after singer Steven Tyler fractured his larynx. Ultimately, the band ended up announcing in 2024 they were retiring from touring since Tyler was unable to fully recover from the vocal cord injury.

That led some to believe that Tyler would never perform again, but he’s been doing occasional one-off performances, including his highest-profile performance since the injury on Saturday, July 5 at the “Back to the Beginning” Ozzy Osbourne-Black Sabbath farewell concert in Birmingham, England.

Video shared on Aerosmith’s Instagram Stories showed Tyler performing the band’s classic 1977 hit “Walk This Way” and a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” backed by an all-star band featuring Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello and producer Andrew Watt on guitars and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Travis Barker of Blink-182 on drums.

Over on Tyler’s personal Instagram, still photos by professional photographer Ross Halfin from the performance were shared in a carousel, including pics of Tyler on stage with Morello, Watt and other guest musicians.

Seeing Tyler performing again had at least one fan confused.

“wait…didn’t you cancel my Aerosmith show because you couldn’t sing?…” asked one fan.

That prompted replies from others.

“I just looked it up. He can sing, but his doctors say that a full recovery from his injury is not possible,” one added.

“Leave the man alone 😭😭🙃,” another wrote.

“A couple of one-off shows here and there are vastly different than having to do nearly 2-hour sets almost every night for a tour,” another fan reasoned.

Several fans expressed their disappointment at missing the band’s final tour or never being able to catch Aerosmith live.

Others, however, were hopeful this was the beginning of a full-on comeback.

“Steven, you look ready to come back to the stage, and we all can’t wait to see you rock again 🥹❤️,” wrote one fan.

Another added, “Steven Tyler is aging like fine wine 🍷, just getting better with time.💕💕.”
