LEGO Doc ‘Piece by Piece’ with Pharrell Williams Sets Netflix Streaming Date

In a somewhat unexpected license, Piece by Piece by Focus Features will be hitting Netflix in the United States in early June, following its initial stint on Peacock. The movie falls into Netflix’s arrangement with Universal Pictures, covering animated titles rather than Prime Video’s equivalent for the live-action slate.

Touching down on Netflix, but only in the US, from June 7th, the movie comes to Netflix four months after it first began streaming on Peacock on February 7th. Directed and written by Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom), the unconventional biographical documentary film is done entirely in LEGO animation. It recounts the life of the award-winning singer/songwriter Pharrell Williams, who you’ll know for songs like Get Lucky, Happy, Alright, and Blurred Lines. 

The film first premiered at Telluride late last Summer, followed by a broader rollout in theaters (to limited success) in October and a home release soon after. Although it wasn’t a big film in theaters, it did capture the imaginations of both audiences and critics who did turn out to watch the movie with an 83% and Certified Fresh rating on RottenTomatoes and similarly impressive audience reviews across the board.

Kristen Maldando for Pop Culture Planet said, “This vibrant and whimsical documentary is unconventional in the best way as it takes you through the life of the hitmaker from his childhood in Virginia through to his success in music.”

Alongside Williams in the cast are several well-known musicians who have all collaborated with him in the past. Some of those names include Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Pusha T, Busta Rhymes, and my personal favorite, Daft Punk.

Netflix in the US will stream the movie for 10 months before departing for Peacock once again. That means you have until April 7th, 2026, to watch. 

LEGO recently partnered with Netflix for a big ONE PIECE collaboration, which includes new toy sets. Netflix is also the streaming home to many LEGO animated series, such as LEGO Friends, LEGO Elves: Secret of Elvendale, and LEGO Dreamzzz, and we’re hearing there are more collaborations on the way.

Given it’s a quiet year, the only major title to hit Netflix this year will be Dog Man sometime in late Summer/early Fall with most of the bigger hits scheduled for 2026.
