Lego’s newest Sega Genesis set taps into ’90s nostalgia

3 September 20252 Mins Read

The Lego Company has unveiled its newest gaming set. Partnering with Sega on the 260-piece Sega Genesis Controller set, this new piece of Lego decor is tapping into your childhood nostalgia.

It’ll be displayable in two ways. The front will look like a Lego-ized controller, while the opposite side will showcase the Green Hill Zone level from Sonic the Hedgehog. It’ll include “regional stickers” to decorate the controller, though what those are isn’t immediately clear. It could be in reference to the branding front and center on the controller: the Sega Genesis is known as the Mega Drive outside of North America.

It’ll be priced at $19.99, though it’s not yet available and is described as a “Gift with Purchase” item. The details are unknown at the time of writing as to how prospective customers could acquire the gift, as clicking on the “offers” button on the product page doesn’t reveal any information about the specific offer. Polygon has reached out to The Lego Company for details and will update this story accordingly. For what it’s worth, a leaker on Reddit purports the controller set will be available Sept. 8 and will be free with a purchase of at least $130.

The Lego Company is no stranger to selling you video game nostalgia in brick form. Its Lego Game Boy set is a thing of beauty, and releases next month.
