Two months after debuting at the Consumer Electronics Show, Lego’s new Smart Play technology is out in the wild. Lego’s first eight Smart Play sets landed in stores on March 1, offering a bevy of new Star Wars builds with integrated Smart technology that adds lighting, sounds, and more interactive play elements. And while that doesn’t mean you need to throw out your existing Star Wars Lego collection (that would be madness), you might want to put your eyes on these.
There’s a lot going on inside the tiny Smart Play bricks that power the new technology. When we had the chance to sit down and play with the new sets at CES, it was clear that there was some fun to be had — and that’s before they announced the Mos Eisley Cantina build that’s Smart Play-compatible. What more could you want than to play the jizz-wailing sounds of Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes?
While there is plenty of room to grow Smart Play beyond the Star Wars franchise, it’s hard to think of a better fit for the technology right out of the gate; it’s all laser swords and space battles. And with eight sets available for purchase at launch, you can already build yourself a pretty decent brick-based Star Wars galaxy. Take a look below at all the Lego Smart Play sets that are available for purchase.
Note: The sets listed as compatible don’t include the Smart Play brick that powers the system, which must be purchased separately.

Thus far, reviews from Lego fans have been mixed. While the technology sounds like a potential hit for younger fans, adult Lego enthusiasts might find these first sets a bit too small, simple, and less complex than the builds they prefer. YouTuber MandRproductions reviewed the entire release collection, noting that the Smart Play-compatible Yoda’s Hut is his personal favorite piece of the collection, due to it offering plenty of play options if you don’t have access to a Smart Play brick. It also happens to be one of the more detailed sets — along with Mos Eisley Cantina — while also offering plenty of play options for those who don’t have access to a Smart Play Brick.
Lego has yet to announce the next wave of Smart Play releases. As much fun as a Smart Play Death Star or another massive Star Wars set sounds, why not branch out? After all, Lego’s rather pricey Pokémon sets are also out now, so perhaps some simplified builds with Smart Play compatibility are in order. Then again, with a bunch of new Mandalorian and Grogu Lego sets on the way, chances are there’s a Smart Play Baby Yoda minifigure on the horizon.
