Lego’s Sony PlayStation Set Officially Launches This Week

After bringing the Nintendo Entertainment System, Atari 2600, and Sega Genesis to life in brick form, Lego is teaming up with PlayStation for a new retro console recreation. The Lego PlayStation set is finally here and launches Oct. 1.

The Lego Sony PlayStation is a 1,911-piece set that is designed to “near 1:1 scale” and will cost $179.99. The set lets players build the original PlayStation console and controller in Lego brick form, as well as some dioramas that nod to PlayStation’s early history. The Lego PlayStation set features a functioning “Open” button on the front-right corner of the build, which opens the system’s spring-loaded lid to reveal a pair of nostalgic dioramas. Inside the Lego PlayStation is a large Lego recreation of the classic “PS” logo, as well as mini dioramas based on 1997’s Gran Turismo and 1999’s Ape Escape.

At 1,911 pieces, the Lego Sony PlayStation is smaller than the Lego Atari 2600 (2,532 pieces) and Lego Nintendo Entertainment System (2,646 pieces), but larger than the Lego Sega Genesis (480 pieces). All of Lego’s video game console sets have had varied extras, including a retro TV set for the Lego NES and multiple cartridges for the Lego 2600.

Lego’s PlayStation set will officially be released on Oct. 1 for Lego Insiders and Oct. 4 for everyone. It will be available from Lego.com.
