Lin-Manuel Miranda Is a 'Complete and Total Delight' in 'Brilliant' New Video Recreating 'Hamilton' TikTok Trend With His Broadway Costar

4 September 20253 Mins Read

Lin-Manuel Miranda is more than happy to get in on a joke, as evidenced by his very public take on the viral TikTok trend inspired by his work in Hamilton.

In a new video uploaded by the musical’s official TikTok page, the actor could be seen reprising his role in a large crowd of fans who had all gathered to watch a professional recording of Hamilton on the big screen, working the crowd like an expert as he dramatically reenacted a moment where, on screen, he is simply working at his desk, brushing off his spouse and attending to important business by candlelight.

As the bit came to an end, with his character asserting, “This meeting’s at dawn,” he darted down the stairs of the theater, disappearing from the seating area to uproarious applause from the audience.

Fans Say Miranda ‘Won This Trend’ With His ‘Iconic’ Approach

Some guessed that the actor had “been waiting for his chance to do the trend,” and it was well worth it.

“guys he won this trend fr,” one declared, while another affirmed he was “giving the people what we want 🤣🤣.”

“HE FINALLY DID IT,” another celebrated, with an equally emphatic fan adding, “HE’S JUST TOO ICONIC 😭.”

“such a diva, he ate that up,” someone else complimented the “Absolutely brilliant” moment.

Another called him “a complete and total delight with everything he does.”

The majority of the musical’s original cast reunited on Wednesday, Sept. 3 to commemorate the upcoming theatrical release of the production’s pro-shot, gathering for a viewing at The Public Theater’s Delacorte Theatre in New York City.

As seen from another angle, his co-star Phillipa Soo, who played his wife and counterpart on the viral song, got in on the fun, gesticulating to him from her seat in the crowd during her parts.

What Is the ‘Hamilton’ TikTok Trend?

A decade after the debut of the writer and performer’s musical, a snippet of sound from the production went viral on social media, with over 215 thousand videos made to the track “Best of Wives and Best of Women.”

The trend began with mostly young women portraying Miranda’s character of Alexander Hamilton, somehow including the garb of the early 1800s and eyeliner goatees, as he is confronted by his wife while trying to sneak away in the middle of the night for his “early meeting out of town.” The TikTokers usually end the scene by making a swift escape through a window, leaving their concerned spouse in the dust.

Following the trend’s explosive growth, men started doing it in reverse, portraying Hamilton’s wife, Eliza, as she tries to stop him from going.

Hamilton hits theaters nationwide tomorrow, Sept. 5.
