Brenda Harvey Richie, the ex-wife of Lionel Richie, shared the first update on the singer’s recent health scare.
The Grammy Award winner, 77, was forced to cut his St. Paul, Minnesota, concert short earlier this week and was rushed to the hospital.
“Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his show on Friday, June 26 in Chicago, IL and Saturday, June 27 in Columbus, OH,” a statement shared by Richie’s team read. “He and Earth, Wind & Fire will return to the stage on Tuesday, June 30 in Pittsburgh, PA. Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans.”
The statement continued, “We apologize for any inconvenience this causes fans who have tickets for these two shows. Rescheduled dates will be announced soon.”
While the statement was vague regarding Richie’s health battle, TMZ reported that the artist felt “dizzy” and “strange” while performing.
