Fans on horses spotted along 4th Avenue route – 10 a.m

In a display of true frontier spirit, a group of fans were spotted riding horses along the 4th Avenue route this morning. The sight has turned heads near Pioneer Square, adding a unique Old West flair to the high-tech celebration of the “Dark Side” defense.

While horses aren’t the typical mode of transport for a downtown commute, they are certainly one way to avoid the packed light rail trains and full parking garages. Bystanders have been seen snapping photos as the riders navigate the edges of the growing crowds, which are now stretching several blocks deep.

Lynnwood parking reaches capacity; towing warning issued by police – 9:30 a.m.

If you’re heading to the from the north, take note: The Lynnwood City Center Station parking garage is officially full.

The Lynnwood Police Department issued a traffic advisory on X  warning fans that people have begun parking at nearby private businesses to catch the light rail.

Police are urging fans to be careful, as these local businesses may have illegally parked vehicles towed at the owner’s expense.

Avoid parking in retail lots like the nearby Alderwood Mall or grocery stores, as enforcement is expected to be strict today in those spots, too.

Alternative options for North Sound fans trying to get to the Super Bowl :

  • Ash Way Park & Ride: Check for remaining spots and use the ST Express 512 or 513 to connect to the Lynnwood Link.
  • Get dropped off: Use ride-hail services or have a friend drop you at the station’s designated loading zone to avoid the parking hunt.

As of 9 am, thousands of fans are now lining the 4th Avenue route, some standing three to four rows deep from the curb.

While the official doesn’t kick off until 11 a.m., the energy is already electric. Fans are occupying every available inch of sidewalk from Pioneer Square up to the Seattle Center.

The scene at Northgate Station is currently a sea of blue and green as thousands of 12s pack the platforms, though many are finding themselves at a complete standstill.

Copper wire theft stalls light rail service before Seahawks Super Bowl – 8:30 a.m.

Copper wire thieves nearly fumbled the morning commute for thousands of Seahawks fans as the city prepares for a historic Super Bowl victory .

Early Wednesday morning, Sound Transit reported a total service suspension on the 1 Line between Angle Lake and Star Lake. The cause was not a mechanical failure but a targeted theft of high-voltage copper wiring in the Kent and Federal Way area, according to KIRO Radio’s Chris Sullivan.

The timing was a logistical nightmare for transit officials who have spent the week urging the expected 1 million attendees to avoid driving downtown.

With the light rail back on track, fans are encouraged to stick to their original game plan, but to pack their patience.

  • Rail frequency: Sound Transit is running trains every six minutes until 6 p.m. to clear the backlog of fans.
  • Bus hubs: North and south hubs are active at Mercer Street and SODO to shuttle riders toward the 4th Avenue route.
  • Security alert: Expect a heavy law enforcement presence at stations to deter further theft attempts throughout the day.
