'Lord of the Rings' Star Says He'd Return For Sequel Under One Surprising Condition

11 June 20252 Mins Read

Elves might be immortal in the hallowed world of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings universe, but Orlando Bloom certainly isn’t it. While the 48-year-old actor still looks to be in remarkable shape as he nears his 50s, the former Lord of the Rings star has expressed a desire to embody the Legolas last seen in the original LOTR trilogy, even if that means using experimental filmmaking techniques in order to do so.

Previously, Bloom has been incredibly open about his desire to return to The Lord of the Rings for the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, even claiming, back in April, “I always think that if [The Lord of the Rings director, Peter Jackson] says ‘Jump,’ I say, ‘How high?'”

While the Pirates of the Caribbean star has hardly changed his tune in the interim, Bloom has since clarified the one caveat he’d have for returning to Jackson’s award-winning fantasy series.

Speaking with MovieWeb to promote his latest project Deep Cover, Bloom stated, “I think first of all, I’d like to see [Legolas] the same age as he was [in the original trilogy]. So, AI would have to come into play. I think I’d like to see him lithe and breezy and warrior — so AI would have to come into play.”

Previously, Bloom had been digital de-aged for Jackson’s prequel films, The Hobbit, which saw the actor once again step foot into the role of the bow-stringing Elf, Legolas. In this latest interview, Bloom plainly confirmed his desire to return to the series, most especially if the film were shot in New Zealand once again.

“I think if they asked me, I would say, ‘Absolutely!'” Bloom said. “It would be so fun just to go back to New Zealand and spend however long they want me there for. Because honestly, if you want to be anywhere in the world right now, New Zealand is the place.”
