Madonna Gets Honest About Her Spirituality and 'Not Fitting In' in First-Ever Podcast

28 September 20252 Mins Read

Madonna, 67, sat down for her first podcast appearance ever with Jay Shetty, and a sneak preview of the episode shows her opening up about her spiritual journey with Kabbalah, accepting her life’s purpose, and learning to love “not fitting in” with everyone else.

“You need to be spiritual to be successful,” she shared in a sneak peek of the upcoming On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast obtained by People. “Success is having a spiritual life, period. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have one.”

The “Vogue” singer’s journey with Kabbalah famously began in the 1990s, after the birth of her first child, daughter Lourdes Leon. First being spotted with a red bracelet in 1996, she became a follower of the Kabbalah Centre, adopting the Hebrew name Esther, becoming a founder of the Centre’s charity, and even getting a tattoo on her wrist of the Kabbalah tree of life in 2022.

“I don’t fit in, and not fitting in is what saves you.”

Her current Kabbalah teacher, Eitan Yardeni, reportedly joins the interview as well, and the pair recently launched a new course together called The Mystical Studies of the Zohar.

The “Like A Virgin” artist, whose real name is Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone, credits the practice with giving her “humility.”

“Spiritual wisdom is not helpful when everything’s going your way. It’s helpful when you’re challenged and when you’re happy,” she told Shetty. “It’s helpful to remember that at any given time, in any moment, it could be gone. So don’t take it for granted. Have humility… What is happening to you is meant to happen to you — and that you’re going to be okay.”

The practice has also helped her with “radical acceptance” of herself and all the circumstances in her life. “[I was] a slave or victim of other people’s opinions of me,” she admitted. But now she’s happy she’s always marched to the beat of her own drum. “I don’t fit in, and not fitting in is what saves you.”

And she may be the ultimate “Material Girl,” but her true purpose is far greater. “My soul’s purpose is to reveal light in the world through whatever I do,” she said. “I want it all, but I want it for the sake of sharing, not to keep it for myself.”
