Major Montreal road closures & detours could mess with your weekend plans

21 March 20253 Mins Read

If you were planning a tour de ville around Montreal this weekend, you might want to reconsider.

Last weekend’s St. Patrick’s Day caused plenty of traffic headaches, but this weekend won’t be a walk in the park either. According to Mobilité Montréal, major road closures and detours are set to make getting in and around the city a real hassle from March 21 to 24.

Here are some areas that could delay drivers.

Downtown Montreal

If you were hoping to explore ongoing sales at The Bay, it might be best to take the metro. Three out of four lanes on Boulevard Robert-Bourassa between Rue De La Gauchetière and Boulevard René-Lévesque heading north will be partially closed on Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Louis-H. Lafontaine Tunnel / Highway 25

Southbound: The tunnel will be completely closed between Exit 5 (Rue Sherbrooke) and the South Shore from Friday night to Saturday morning (11 p.m. to 8 a.m.). Then, from Saturday night to Sunday morning (11 p.m. to 9 a.m.), it’ll be shut down from Exit 4 (Avenue Souligny, downtown).

Detours will take you along De Boucherville, Hochelaga, Dickson South, and Notre-Dame streets, or via Avenue Papineau and the Jacques Cartier Bridge. Avoid the Anjou Interchange too — the ramp from Highway 40 West to Highway 25 South will be completely closed from Friday night to Saturday morning.

Northbound: The tunnel will be closed between Exit 90 of Route 132 on Highway 20 West in Longueuil and the Rue Sherbrooke access in Montreal. To get to Montreal, you’ll need to take Route 132 West towards the Jacques Cartier Bridge. But heads up, Avenue De Lorimier between Dubuc and Rouen is under construction for the next three weeks.

Highway 10 / Bonaventure & Samuel-De-Champlain Bridge

More headaches are expected around the Samuel-De-Champlain Bridge and Highway 10. From Saturday night to Sunday morning (11:30 p.m. to 9 a.m.), the westbound/ downtown-bound ramp at Exit 58 will be closed. Drivers will be rerouted via Exit 60 to Boulevard Gaétan-Laberge.

From Sunday night at 9 p.m. to Monday morning at 5 a.m., Highway 10 East towards the Samuel-De-Champlain Bridge will be closed between Exit 4 and the bridge. Anyone trying to get to Île-des-Sœurs will need to use Exit 57-N (Chemin de la Pointe-Nord).
