Marriott International has announced opening its first City Express by Marriott property in the United States, the City Express by Marriott Duluth, GA, marking the hotel company’s expansion into the affordable midscale segment in the U.S. and Canada.

As part of its expansion, City Express by Marriott aims to provide a seamless guest experience for both business and leisure travelers. It offers a conversion-friendly model for owners, with each property designed to combine style and comfort. Guests can expect plush beds, high-speed internet access, complimentary breakfast, 24-hour markets, pet-friendly policies, and on-site fitness facilities.

Marriott International’s Global Development Officer for the U.S. and Canada, Noah Silverman, highlighted the introduction of City Express by Marriott properties in the U.S. as a pivotal moment for the company. The brand, which has been a powerhouse in the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) region, offers a valuable proposition to owners and guests. Marriott is excited to bring this same combination of value to the U.S. and Canada.

The expansion of City Express by Marriott across the U.S. and Canada is set to accelerate throughout 2025 and beyond. Over 45 total signed agreements are already in place, with more than a dozen slated to open this year. The 2025 openings will be located in popular destinations across the region, including New Orleans, Chicago, Orlando, and Port Hope (Ontario, Canada).

Diana Plazas-Trowbridge, Chief Lodging Products Officer for the U.S. and Canada, noted that the launch of City Express by Marriott in the U.S. and Canada underscores Marriott’s commitment to meeting the diverse needs of all travelers. Whether for business or leisure, guests can expect a seamless, efficient stay similar to what made the brand successful in the CALA region.

The 83-room City Express by Marriott Duluth, located a 30-minute drive from downtown Atlanta, offers easy access to city amenities while providing a relaxed setting complete with a vibrant dining scene and nearby recreational facilities.

Since acquiring the City Express brand portfolio in 2023, Marriott has strategically expanded its footprint in the fast-growing, affordable midscale segment. The company now features three dynamic midscale brands: City Express by Marriott in CALA and the U.S. and Canada, Four Points Flex by Sheraton in Europe, Middle East and Africa and Asia Pacific excluding China, and StudioRes, an extended stay brand set to debut in the U.S. and Canada this year.

City Express by Marriott is also expanding across the CALA region, with plans to open eight new properties in Argentina, Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Peru over the next three years. The company also anticipates extending the brand’s portfolio into Brazil soon.
