And one of its most heralded episodes, stranding Earth’s greatest heroes in a post-apocalyptic environment, has earned its own spinoff in Marvel Zombies. When a zombie plague overruns Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, a ragtag band of survivors stumbles upon the key to stopping the super-powered undead. Their only hope lies in a perilous journey across a ravaged world, risking everything to save what’s left of humanity.

While a rating for the series hasn’t been officially announced, in a 2024 interview with IGN, Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios Head of Streaming, Television and Animation stated, “In terms of more mature animation, yeah, we’re making a Marvel Zombies show right now that is pretty intense that’s for sure a TV-MA show.”

Is Marvel Zombies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Yes! The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman launched Marvel Zombies as a comic series in 2005, set in an alternate universe where Earth’s heroes had been transformed into the undead. Bryan Andrews adapted the comic into What If…Zombies?, which was the fifth episode of Season 1 of the animated What If…? anthology series.

Marvel Zombies was created by Andrews and Zeb Wells but remains in an alternate universe. So yes, the series is part of the MCU. However, it is not part of the “Sacred Timeline” of Earth-616 like another recently released Marvel animated series, Eyes of Wakanda.

The series will be streaming on Disney+. It’s also where you can stream What If…? and Moon Knight.
