Matt Lauer’s Former Co-Anchor Praises Accuser’s Courage

Former NBC employee Brooke Nevils is set to release a memoir centered around her experience with former Today anchor, Matt Lauer.

Nevils accused Lauer, 68, of anal rape that she said took place while they were working in Sochi, Russia, during the Winter Olympics in 2014. Lauer vehemently denied Nevils claims, but was fired from NBC in 2017, effectively ending his career to date.

Lauer’s co-anchor Ann Curry has weighed in on Nevils’ decision to write a book, telling People magazine, “I remember Brooke as good-hearted and credible, with great potential. She is also brave.”

Curry spoke out about Lauer, informing higher ups at NBC that a female staffer told her that she’d been “sexually harassed physically” by him. Curry was fired by NBC in 2012. In an interview with Elle magazine, Curry said she wasn’t exactly sure why she was let go by the network.

“I still don’t really understand,” Curry said. “I know I did nothing wrong. I know I was good at my job.”

“They say where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” she continued. “You can read the tea leaves. But you know, I’m a fact-based reporter, so it’s hard for me to go out there, with something so close to the vest. I don’t know. I don’t know.”

One thing that Curry does know is that she believes Nevils.

“Brooke Nevils is a credible young woman of good character. She came to NBC News an eager and guileless 20-something, brimming with talent,” Curry posted on X. “I believe she is telling the truth,” Curry, 62, continued. “And that breaks my heart.”

Nevils’ book, “Unspeakable Things: Silence, Shame, and the Stories We Choose to Believe,” will be released on February 3.
