Max Greenfield Reveals What Taylor Swift Was Really Like on the Set of ‘New Girl’

13 years (yes, really) before she was celebrating her own wedding, music icon Taylor Swift had a cameo on the Zooey Deschanel-led show New Girl in a crucial wedding-focused episode. Specifically, Swift played the titular character Elaine in the episode “Elaine’s Big Day,” which sees Cece nearly marrying Shivrang, despite the fact that she and Schmidt are clearly meant to be together.

Thankfully, Elaine comes to the rescue, as she and Shivrang admit their feelings for one another, making it possible for Cece and Schmidt to finally be together. In a way, Swift’s role on New Girl is actually, therefore, a pivotal part of Cece and Schmidt’s love story, and now, Schmidt actor Max Greenfield has revealed what Swift was really like on set all those years ago.

As shared in a post on Netflix’s official X account, Greenfield explained, “I remember she was on set, and we were hanging out. And she was so kind. She was, like, a better actor than all of us. And I remember asking her, I said, ‘Can I ask you a question?’ And she was like, ‘Yeah, sure.’ And I go, ‘If you could play, like, to an intimate audience or a big arena, what do you prefer?’ And she goes, without missing a beat, she goes, ‘If you could fill the ocean with people, I’d like to play for that.'”

In the same interview, Greenfield highlighted that, at that time (2013), Swift wasn’t quite the mega star that she is today, which only makes this all the more notable. Back then, that may have seemed like a cool thing to say—and it’s clear that Greenfield felt that it was—but few could have imagined that just a decade later, she would be selling out arenas all over the world on her record-breaking Eras Tour, which will undoubtedly go down as one of the highlights of her career.
