Meet the New 'Slayer' in Upcoming ‘Buffy’ Reboot, Confirmed by Sarah Michelle Gellar

15 May 20252 Mins Read

There’s a new ‘Slayer’ in town.

On Thursday, Sarah Michelle Gellar confirmed that the lead role for the ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ reboot has been selected by posting a sweet video where she broke the news to actress, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, that she got the part.

“Ryan, we all love you and from the second we all saw your tape there was nobody else in our eyes that could do it,” Gellar said over a video conference. “I’m so excited to stand by your side and have you be my partner on this journey.”

“Welcome to New Sunnydale,” Gellar added, in a nod to the fictional town where ‘Buffy’ takes place.

The reboot series, which will be released on Hulu, was initially announced in February and does not have a title yet. It will follow a new slayer, which we now know is Armstrong, with Gellar, 48, appearing as her original character, according to Variety.

“We are so overjoyed to have found this generation’s slayer in Ryan Kiera Armstrong,” writers Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman told the outlet in a joint statement. “There is no question in our mind that she is the chosen one.”

Armstrong’s credits include roles in ‘Skeleton Crew’ and ‘American Horror Story.’

‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ was originally a film that was released in 1992 and then became a series starring Gellar in 1997.
