MEININGER Hotels has announced plans to open its first property in Portugal, a 228-room hotel in Porto scheduled for the first quarter of 2028.
MEININGER Hotels will expand its presence to Portugal with a new hotel in Porto, according to an announcement from the company. The planned property will be located at Rua Pinto Bessa 320 in the Bonfim district of Porto.
The development is being carried out in cooperation with Eiffage Immobilier and Covivio. The 228-room hotel will be a newly constructed building with a total area of 9,150 square meters.
The room configuration includes 21 double rooms, 70 triple rooms, 120 quadruple rooms, and 17 six-bed rooms. The hotel is designed to accommodate a range of guest types, including families, groups, and individual travelers.
The project is targeting BREEAM certification with a rating of “Very Good.” In addition, it is set to be the first hotel in Portugal to be certified according to the LCBI standard.
The location in the Bonfim district is described as having developed into a neighborhood with galleries, shops, and dining options. The site offers transport connections to city attractions and the airport, with the international Campanhã station nearby, providing metro, train, and bus links. A high-speed rail link to Lisbon is planned for 2030, expected to reduce travel time between Porto and Lisbon by approximately 1.5 hours.
The opening of the MEININGER Hotel Porto is scheduled for the first quarter of 2028.
