Miami Beach Approves $12 Million The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach Lincoln Road Revitalization

The Miami Beach City Commission has given unanimous approval for a $12 million redevelopment project of Lincoln Road and the adjacent Beachwalk entrance, spearheaded by Sobe Sky Development. The project, which involves collaboration with the State of Florida, aims to revitalize the 100-300 blocks of Lincoln Road in Miami Beach.

The funding for the project is sourced from multiple entities, including $4.85 million from the State of Florida, $4 million from Sobe Sky Development, and $4 million from the City of Miami Beach. The redevelopment plan includes transforming the 100 block of Lincoln Road into a pedestrian-friendly area with enhanced landscaping and amenities. The design, led by Andres Arcila of Naturalficial, aims to integrate public beach access with Lincoln Road’s shopping districts.

The project also includes plans to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety. This involves negotiations with Dade County to alter bus and traffic routes, facilitating the pedestrianization of the 100-300 blocks and extending the Lincoln Road Mall. The redesign will feature an artwalk, traffic enhancements, and a gateway monument inspired by architect Morris Lapidus.

The Beachwalk entrance on Collins Avenue, which experiences high pedestrian traffic, will see improvements to minimize vehicle-pedestrian interactions and enhance traffic circulation. The redesign includes reimagined lanes and medians to streamline traffic and improve safety for both pedestrians and motorists.

Sobe Sky Development, the owner of The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach, and The Sagamore Hotel, is leading the project intending to enhance the urban core of Miami Beach.

The project is set to enter the design and permitting phase immediately, following the approval from the Miami Beach City Commission.
