Miley Cyrus Is Back at No. 1 for the First Time in 13 Years

Miley Cyrus just landed her first No. 1 album in more than 10 years. 

Her new record, Bass Persuades, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart dated October 3, earning 61,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during the week ending September 24, according to Luminate.

It’s her sixth chart-topper overall and her 16th top 10 album, but her first time back at No. 1 since Bangerz all the way back in 2013.

Cyrus announced Bass Persuades on September 1, and the album dropped just a couple weeks later on September 18. Its title track, which also serves as the lead single, came out a few days before the announcement and debuted at No. 35 on the Billboard Hot 100. 

The album arrives a year after her last one, Something Beautiful, which came out in June 2025 and peaked at No. 4.

The 61,000 first-week units were largely driven by traditional album sales, which accounted for 47,000 units and also put the album at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart. Streaming contributed another 14,000 units, or roughly 14.22 million on-demand streams. 

Fans had plenty of ways to buy the record, with 16 vinyl editions, including one with a bonus track, along with nine CDs, six digital versions and a cassette.

Cyrus isn’t the only artist having a “welcome back to No. 1” moment this year. She’s actually the third act in 2026 to return to the top of the chart after a decade-plus wait. 

Bruno Mars did it back in March with The Romantic, 13 years after his last No. 1. A$AP Rocky did the same thing in January with Don’t Be Dumb, just over 10 years after his last chart-topper.

In a previous interview, Cyrus opened up about the inspiration behind the new album, explaining that it was about more than just a “love story.”

“This album is a love story, but love stories are never one-dimensional. They’re always layered. There is definitely a romantic thread weaving through it because, like all my records, it’s a reflection of where I am in my life,” she said.

Cyrus, who’s engaged to musician Maxx Morando, said the themes on this record feel different than in the past because of how consistent they’ve been in her life lately.

“[This] feels especially meaningful because this feeling has stayed with me through multiple eras,” she added. “That’s something I hadn’t really experienced before. A peaceful kind of love has become a theme across my last three records.”
