Minor Hotels will develop Avani Kyoto along Karasuma Street in central Kyoto on the site of the former Kyoto Shimbun headquarters. The hotel will have direct access to Marutamachi Station on the Karasuma Subway Line and is within walking distance of the Kyoto Imperial Palace and Nijo Castle.
The project will renovate the existing North Building and add a new South Building, creating a hotel with approximately 240 guest rooms. Dining outlets and shared social areas will be included throughout the property.
Minor Hotels will serve as both investor and operator in the joint development with Taisei Corporation and Heiwa Real Estate Co., Ltd. The opening is scheduled for 2030.
This project is part of Minor Hotels’ broader entry into Japan through a joint venture with Royal Holdings Co., Ltd., with plans to expand its presence in the country with hotels under the Anantara, Avani, and Tivoli brands in various destinations.
Avani Kyoto will combine the renovation of an existing structure with new construction to offer both short- and long-stay accommodation options. The opening will mark the first entry of the Avani brand into Japan.
