Mirvish Productions has revealed its upcoming subscription season, which will feature seven musicals including the Toronto premiere of Alan Doyle’s Tell Tale Harbour.
The programming, dubbed the “Oops!…We Did It Again” season, will also include the previously announced return of & Juliet.
“Each subscription season is a work in progress for many years, and this coming season is an especially wonderful one,” said David Mirvish in a media release. “People having been asking us about bringing it back ever since it left, and we’re thrilled to welcome it back for a sit-down production,” he said, referring to & Juliet, which begins previews in December.
Tell Tale Harbour comes to Toronto by way of Atlantic Canada, in a co-production between Mirvish and the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown. Based on Ken Scott’s screenplay for The Grand Seduction, the musical had its world premiere at the Charlottetown Festival in 2022 and features folk-tinged tunes by Doyle as well as Adam Brazier, Bob Foster and Edward Riche.
The upcoming Mirvish season also features a handful of Canadian premieres straight from Broadway.
Shucked, whose touring cast includes Canadian actor Danielle Wade as lead Maizy, is a comedy cob-ful of puns about corn. The Outsiders, which won the 2024 Tony Award for best musical, is based on the book and film of the same title, while Some Like It Hot is an adaptation of Billy Wilder’s 1959 comedy film.
Rounding out the season are two bio musicals about famous musicians: A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical, and MJ: The Musical, which follows Michael Jackson through the motions of creating his “Dangerous” concert tour in 1992.
While the full Off-Mirvish season has yet to be announced, a handful of shows will make their way to the CAA Theatre this spring, including a remount of Saul Rubinek’s Playing Shylock and the non-equity tour of Larissa FastHorse’s adaptation of Peter Pan.
