Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave‘s “Monster in the Night” quest seems like it should be straightforward. A monster’s been ransacking market stalls at night, and you need to stop it. Good luck finding the monster if you’re using the quest description, though. It’s pretty misleading, and you might find yourself wasting precious time if you keep trying to clear the quest using its own logic.
Below, we explain how to complete the “Monster in the Night” quest in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave.
“Monster in the Night” quest walkthrough
The quest-giver and description tell you the marketplace keeps suffering monster attacks at night. That’s only half correct. The monster’s been attacking locations in the City Streets part of the map, which is northeast of the spot where you do your actual shopping in the little cul-de-sac of avenues that leads nowhere in particular. And it doesn’t show up at night, either. The monster in question turns up at dusk.
If you’re traveling back to Dagsion, you can try timing your arrival so the clock turns to 18:00 when you enter the city, but unless you’re waiting on the Dagsion map tile, you might end up getting the wrong time anyway. An easier method is to do auto-activities at an inn and set the end time to 18:00. You get some gold or experience for your trouble, and you don’t have to worry about wasting turns to get the time right.
At dusk, head to the City Streets area shown in the image above, and you’ll find a Demonic Beast waiting. Engage with it to trigger an event clash battle. Imposing as the creature is, it should be a fairly straightforward fight, as this one has no special gimmicks and only one health bar. Make sure to attack using a character with high defense to lessen how much damage the party takes, and use attack links to deal even more damage per turn. Ideally, you’d want to pair with a magic user, since the Demonic Beast has low-ish resistance and high defense.
Return to the quest-giver once you defeat the beast to get your reward: 1,500 gold and 100 renown. It’s not much, but every bit helps.
