Montreal’s Canada Day weather forecast includes heat warnings and a chance of storms

30 June 20252 Mins Read

Between the sweltering heat, the looming thunderstorms, and half the city shutting down for the holiday, Canada Day in Montreal is shaping up to be a bit of a mess — weather-wise, at least.

While many stores, banks, and businesses will be closed on Tuesday, July 1 (full list here), thousands of Montrealers will either be loading up moving trucks or heading to parks, patios, and fireworks events to make the most of the day off. But according to Environment Canada, Mother Nature might have other plans.

In a Special Weather Statement issued by Environment Canada early Monday morning, the federal weather agency warned that a hot and humid air mass will be hovering over southern and central Quebec through Monday and into Tuesday. That means sticky temperatures near 30°C, humidex values between 35 and 38, and overnight lows that won’t dip below 20°C — giving little relief for those sensitive to heat.

Tuesday, aka Canada Day, is expected to start warm and muggy but could turn stormy fast. The latest forecast calls for showers and a risk of thunderstorms in the afternoon, with 10 to 20 mm of rain possible. Environment Canada says “the heat could lead to exhaustion, especially among vulnerable people,” and urges residents to keep an eye on alerts and updates.

The good news? The skies should clear up by Tuesday night, and Wednesday looks sunny and 29°C — perfect for those eager to enjoy the city’s festivities.

Here’s how the next few days are shaping up in Montreal:

  • Monday, June 30: Sunny and 31°C, humidex 37
  • Tuesday, July 1 (Canada Day): Showers, risk of thunderstorms, high 27°C, humidex 35
  • Wednesday: Sunny and 29°C
  • Thursday: Showers and 27°C
  • Friday: Chance of showers, high 23°C
  • Saturday: Back to sun with 30°C
