Montreal’s fall weather forecast is out and terrasse season might last longer than usual

10 September 20252 Mins Read

The official arrival of fall is still a couple of weeks away, but Montreal’s upcoming weather changes are already coming into focus. The Weather Network just released its 2025 fall forecast for different parts of Canada, and it hints at a season that could play out differently than what we’re used to.

According to meteorologists, Quebec got an early taste of autumn during late August and early September, when temperatures dropped off sharply after weeks of summer heat. But for the core of the season — from mid-September through October — Montreal and much of the province are expected to stay on the mild side.

That means warmer-than-normal conditions should dominate through October, along with fewer fall storms than usual. The Weather Network says that combination should bring sunnier days and more chances to enjoy the season’s foliage, whether you’re heading to Mount Royal or planning a weekend in the Eastern Townships.

The forecast also notes that rainy stretches should be less frequent than normal during this period, which could make apple picking, pumpkin patches, and even late-season patio hangs a little more enjoyable than usual.

Of course, the calm won’t last forever. By November, Quebec is expected to shift into a more active pattern. Mild temperatures are expected to linger into the month, but forecasters warn that the eventual flip into early winter could come quickly once it arrives.

That could mean a sharper-than-usual jump from warm fall afternoons to snowy mornings. The upside? Ski areas across the province should be able to kick off their season right on schedule.

As for winter, the Old Farmer’s Almanac is calling for a milder-than-usual winter in southern Quebec, covering both Montreal and Quebec City. According to its national forecast, the chilliest stretches are expected in December as well as in early and late January.

So while it’s not technically fall just yet, Montreal can expect a season that starts off gentler than normal before reality catches up in late November. In other words: enjoy the sunshine while it lasts, but maybe keep that winter coat close by.
