Montreal’s finally getting a dose of summer weather this week but it won’t last long

26 May 20252 Mins Read

After what feels like a never-ending loop of drizzle and clouds, Montreal is finally getting a much-needed dose of real summer weather. But according to forecasters, it’s showing up fashionably late, and leaving early.

MétéoMédia is calling for a solid stretch of sunshine from Monday through Wednesday, with 10 to 15 hours of sun expected daily across southern and central Quebec. In Montreal, things are heating up fast, with highs between 25°C and 26°C. That means SPF, tank tops, and terrasse season is officially on (for about 72 hours).

So far, May has been unseasonably gloomy, with only 97 hours of sunshine being recorded in the province between May 1st and 23rd. The average for the month of May is around 229 hours.

Environment Canada says Monday and Tuesday will be the sunniest, though clouds are likely to mix into Montreal’s sky by Wednesday. Still, it’s looking like the most solid run of weather we’ve seen all May. So, if you’ve got a balcony, a bike, or a picnic blanket, now’s your time.

That said, don’t get too comfortable.

Starting Thursday, a low-pressure system moving in from the Great Lakes is expected to take over, dragging Quebec right back into cloud cover and cooler air. By the end of the week, temperatures will drop to the low 20s and rain is likely through at least Saturday, when temperatures could hit a low of 9C, according to both MétéoMédia and Environment Canada.

It’s the kind of pattern Montrealers have gotten used to this month — a quick tease of summer followed by an abrupt return to sweater weather.

In short? If you’re reading this on Monday or Tuesday, go outside now. Your patio moment won’t last long.
