Movie Monday: ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Mines Another Victory, Best TV Shows to Binge Watch

29 December 20252 Mins Read

The Na’vi may be blue, but James Cameron sure isn’t.

Yep, the director is probably feeling anything but—considering Avatar: Fire and Ash secured the top box-office spot for the second time in a row. And honestly? It wasn’t even close. The movie took in an additional $64 million this Christmas weekend, far above its competitors’ numbers. That means, so far, Fire and Ash has earned $217.7 million from American audiences and $760.4 million from the world overall.

True to its rabbit protagonist, Zootopia 2 can’t help but hop all over the box office. After falling from first place to fifth place last weekend, it jumped all the way back up to second. That success comes from a Christmas weekend increasein gross earnings; its domestic gross rose nearly 35% as compared to last Movie Monday’s numbers—from $14.5 million to $20 million. That brings its domestic cume to $321.4 million and its worldwide gross to $1.4 billion. That’s also the fifth week in a row the animated movie has managed to remain in the top five.

Zootopia 2 isn’t the only movie that had a better week as compared to last: Marty Supreme rose from ninth place to third after earning $15.6 million. The reason for that rise? Well, it’s probably because the movie premiered last week to a mere six theaters. This week, 2,662 more theaters started showing the Timothée Chalamet movie. So far, Marty Supreme has netted $28.3 million.

The Housemaid fell from third to fourth, narrowly losing out to Marty Supreme. This week, it cleaned up $15.4 million, which brings its domestic total to $46.5 million. With pitiful international earnings (a mere $168,000), that brings its worldwide cume to $46.6 million.

Anaconda slithered onto the scene to find that audiences cared far more for Zootopia’s animated snake than its own. The Paul Rudd/Jack Black comedy thriller premiered to $14.6 million—good enough for fifth place. With a better international showing ($20 million), that brings its worldwide cume to $34.6 million.

As for other new releases, Song Sung Blue truly did sing a blue song this week. It opened in eighth place with $7.6 million.
