Movie Monday: ‘Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl’ Shakes Off Competition, Best TV Shows to Binge Watch

6 October 20252 Mins Read

Box office contenders knew Taylor Swift was trouble when she walked in.

Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl—a behind-the-scenes look at Swift’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl—took $33 million from American audiences in its opening debut, as well as $13 million internationally. The 90-minute commercial for the album only adds to the chunk of change Swift has earned from the 2.7 million copies The Life of a Showgirl sold on its first day out across physical and digital purchases.

It’s an easy segue to move from Taylor Swift to Leonardo DiCaprio’s antihero, Bob Ferguson, from One Battle After Another. The movie dropped from the top spot to second this weekend. Still, it nabbed $11.1 million in the U.S., bringing its domestic cume to $42.8 million. Worldwide, the movie has captured $101.7 million.

The Smashing Machine hopped into the Octagon this weekend, too, only to get beaten down by Swift and DiCaprio. The Dwayne Johnson movie took home a bronze medal worth $6 million, which accounts for both its domestic and international gains.

Coming in at fourth is Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie. It added $5.2 million to its pockets; that brings its domesticated total up to $21.6 million. Worldwide, the movie took in $32.5 million. That latter number is roughly what was spent in producing the film. Given that movies typically need to earn two to three times their costs to break even, the creators of Gabby’s Dollhouse probably aren’t “feline” very good.

Rounding out the top five is the ghost that keeps on giving: The Conjuring: Last Rites. The movie, haunting the top five for its fifth week in a row, conjured up another $4.1 million from United States moviegoers. That brings its domestic total to $167.8 million. Worldwide, the horror flick possesses $458.2 million.

Looking down the list, the rerelease of Avatar: The Way of Water slid into seventh place with an additional $3.2 million. Meanwhile, Good Boy, the horror movie told from a dog’s perspective, sat at ninth place. It fetched $2.3 million.
