MSNBC Cancels Joy Reid's Show, Expands Role for Jen Psaki in Major Network Shake-Up

23 February 20252 Mins Read

MSNBC is reportedly making big moves as the network’s new president, Rebecca Kutler, makes her mark in programming.

As reported by The New York Times and Variety, a longtime feature of the network, Joy Reid and her show The ReidOut, will be a casualty of the sweeping changes.

A source familiar with the situation told Parade that a slew of updates is set to be announced by Kutler soon, including the cancelation of Reid’s show, with the last episode of The ReidOut airing this week.

Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez, who currently host The Weekend, will reportedly take over the 7 p.m. hour Tuesday through Friday, as well as 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays.

Another major change likely to come centers around Jen Psaki, whose program, Inside with Jen Psaki, launched in 2023. Psaki has decades of experience in politics and was White House press secretary under former President Joe Biden. Psaki’s new podcast, The Blueprint with Jen Psaki, just launched at the start of February, and she also writes a newsletter for MSNBC.

Psaki will likely take over a prime time slot during the week in the new lineup. Meanwhile, Alex Wagner is set to stay on as a correspondent, while a couple of new faces are in talks to join the network.

Mark Lazarus, chief executive officer of SpinCo, previously spoke about MSNBC’s “brand promise” when announcing Kutler’s new position as president.

He said of Kutler, “In the short time that Rebecca was the interim president, it became clear to me that she has the big-picture strategic view and the right leadership skills to ensure MSNBC delivers on its brand promise and is positioned for growth during a time of industry change.”

Further touching on Kutler’s plan for the future of the network, Lazarus went on, “By constructing a first-rate newsgathering operation and assessing what’s required to be competitive in the marketplace, Rebecca and the team will ensure that MSNBC continues to be indispensable to our audiences and our partners.”

Lazarus named Kutler interim president in January 2025. She officially became president of MSNBC on Feb. 12, 2025.
