Nancy Guthrie Case Takes Dark Turn as TMZ Notes Reveal Chilling New Claims

Nancy Guthrie has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1, and Harvey Levin is sharing some new information about the notes that TMZ has received in regard to her disappearance.

On Monday, April 6, TMZ received two new notes from someone asking for 1 Bitcoin in exchange for information that will lead investigators to the people responsible for Guthrie’s kidnapping. Later in the day, Levin sat down with Ashleigh Banfield to chat about the notes on the Drop Dead Serious podcast.

“We’ve gotten more than a half dozen emails from this person. This is somebody who says they know who the kidnappers are, plural, and where Nancy Guthrie is,” Levin said after receiving two notes from this person on Monday, April 6.

“Now he wants half a Bitcoin and he will divulge the location,” Levin continued, confirming that the person claims that Guthrie is in Sonora, Mexico, and that she is dead. He said that the person who sent the email—presuming it’s the same person—previously claimed that Guthrie had died just over a week after she was kidnapped.

Levin confirmed that all communications have been sent to the FBI and confirms that no money has been deposited in the supplied Bitcoin account.

“I’ve talked to the FBI and I, frankly, said to them, ‘look, I’m not you and you clearly know a heck of a lot more than me. But my spidey senses are just telling me something about this guy,'” Levin continued. He said that the sender has repeatedly said this isn’t a hoax and that he understands the consequences if this was, in fact, a hoax.

Levin went on to recall what was in the previously sent emails back in February. In one note, the sender said that “time was of the essence.” The very next day, another note was sent, presumably by the same person, saying “time is no longer of the essence.” Levin pointed out that he doesn’t think someone who was making this stuff up would “take the immediacy away” by insinuating that Guthrie was no longer alive. Levin said that made him think these messages have been “legit.”

Elsewhere in the podcast, Levin referenced the alleged ransom notes that were sent to TMZ and other news stations demanding some $6 million in Bitcoin at the start of the investigation for the return of Guthrie. Levin said that the FBI believed those notes were legitimate and worked with the IT team at TMZ for “hours and hours and hours” but couldn’t trace them back to the sender. The FBI allegedly tried to track the Bitcoin address as well, but it “didn’t work,” according to Levin.

He also said that the person who sent those particular notes threatened to kill Guthrie if the ransom demands were not met. He said he isn’t sure if she died due to being killed or not having her medication or, perhaps, something else entirely.

Now, about two months later, Levin says, “This is a cold case. They’re just waiting for one of those breaks that often comes, but they are at a dead end right now.”
