Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard have been identified as the most expensive summer destinations in the United States, according to a survey by CheapHotels.org.

A recent survey conducted by CheapHotels.org has revealed that Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard are the most expensive summer destinations in the United States for 2025. The survey assessed hotel rates across the country for August 2025, focusing on properties with at least a three-star rating located near beaches or city centers.

The findings show that Nantucket leads the list with an average nightly rate of $621 for the lowest-priced double room. Martha’s Vineyard follows closely with an average rate of $532 per night. Montauk, located at the eastern end of Long Island, New York, ranks third, with rates averaging $512 per night.

Several destinations in Maine are also among the top ten most expensive, including Kennebunkport, Bar Harbor, and Portland. On the West Coast, Huntington Beach is California’s most expensive destination, ranking ninth with an average rate of $351 per night.

The survey indicates a general decrease in prices compared to 2023, with rates among the 20 most expensive destinations dropping by approximately 7%. However, some locations, such as Laguna Beach and Santa Barbara, have experienced significant price increases of nearly 20%. In contrast, Poipu in Hawaii and Avalon in California have seen substantial declines in hotel rates, exceeding 30%.

The table below lists the ten most expensive summer destinations in the U.S. for 2025. The rates reflect the average price for the cheapest available double room between August 1 and 31, inclusive of all taxes and fees:
