NBC Host Reveals She's 'Cancer-Free' Months After On-Air Diagnosis

NBC host Sara Gore has an uplifting health update to share, and she couldn’t be happier to share it.

The host of Open House and New York Live, 50, took to Instagram on Sunday, July 12, to reveal she has officially been declared cancer-free. The positive health update comes after a 10-week leave of absence from both shows while she underwent treatment for breast cancer.

Gore Reflects on Her Healing Journey So Far

Alongside a photo of herself relaxing in a garden, the mom of three shared how far she’s come. “I’m doing really well,” she wrote. “Currently cancer free. Hallelujah.”

She added that she remains in the reconstruction phase of her treatment and expects that process to continue for several more months, but described real progress along the way. “It’s truly a journey,” she wrote. “Healing has taken some time, but every week I’ve felt a little more like me again.”

A Message of Gratitude for Her Support System

Gore didn’t hold back in expressing her thanks to the people who helped carry her through treatment. “Thank you for the books. The food. The flowers. The prayers. The puzzles. The cards. The texts. The calls. Every thoughtful gesture that came my way. I felt EVERY bit of it,” she wrote. “You carried me through some really hard days, and I’ll never forget your kindness.” 

She also confirmed she’ll be heading back to both New York Live and Open House soon, adding that she “honestly can’t wait” to return. For now, she’s savoring the slower pace. “Until then, I’m soaking up these last few slow mornings appreciating all the moments that usually move by too fast to notice,” she wrote. “It’s good to be here. I love you all.”

How Gore First Shared Her Diagnosis With Viewers

Gore’s cancer journey became public back on April 30, when she told viewers about her diagnosis live during an episode of New York Live. “It just felt right to tell you myself. I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I’m going to be stepping away for treatment and surgery,” she said at the time. “If I didn’t say that I was a little bit scared, I’d be lying.”

She also opened up about her family history, revealing that both her mother and sister had previously been diagnosed with breast cancer. “I always knew I was high-risk,” she said. “I always assumed this day would come. But let me tell you, you are never ready.” 

Even catching it early didn’t soften the emotional weight of the news. “For some reason, even when you catch it early because you’re doing everything right, it is an emotional blow,” she said. “I wasn’t ready for that. That actually really surprised me. It really stung.”

At the time, Gore didn’t go into detail about her treatment plan, only that she needed time to rest and heal. She ended her on-air revelation with a promise to her viewers. “I’m going to come back better than ever, and I’m going to see you on the other side of this,” she said. “Thank you for all you’ve done.”

Through it all, Gore leaned on her husband, filmmaker and director Matthew Miele, and their three children, sons Griffin and Sawyer and daughter Fiona.
