Netflix Boards Prime Video Original ‘Sneaky Pete’ in July 2025

One of the most underrated hits within the Amazon Prime Video Originals library is now heading to Netflix. Imagine writing that sentence a few years back! Yes, Sneaky Pete is heading to Netflix in full in July 2025 in the United States, What’s on Netflix has learned.

Beginning July 10th, Netflix will be the new licensing home to all three seasons of Sneaky Pete, a series that was about a con-man who, after being released from prison, has no choice but to adopt the identity of his former cellmate and live out his life as Pete with his long-lost estranged family. The addition to Netflix is not expected to impact the series’ availability on Prime Video.

The series ran from 2015 to 2017 before being canceled by Prime Video in 2019, amidst executive changes at the streamer. Despite that, it remains one of the best-reviewed shows in Prime Video’s history, with a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes as of publication. Uproxx famously said, “Sneaky Pete works because virtually every actor involved is two or three degrees better than required, and every character is written with greater detail and intelligence than the story needs to keep moving forward.”

Giovanni Ribisi leads the cast of the new series as Pete Murphy, with additional cast members joining him throughout the 30-episode run, including Marin Ireland, Margo Martindale, Peter Gerety, Shane McRae, and Libe Barer.

Wait, I hear you cry, why and how is a Prime Video Original coming to Netflix? Welcome to the weird and wonderful world of licensing. Much like how we’ve seen Hulu Originals come to Netflix, the reason is largely due to who owns the underlying rights to the show. As we’ve covered with Netflix Originals, not all movies and series released with an ‘N’ on the branding will remain on the service forever, as evidenced by the fact that over 200 have now departed. The same applies to other providers, and in the case of Sneaky Pete, Sony Pictures Television owns the underlying rights to the show.

July 2025 is going to be a very busy month for new licensed shows on Netflix, as we’ve already been covering. Seasons 1 and 2 of Sullivan’s Crossing are joining in addition to the complete collections of Mr. Robot, Yellowjackets, and the CBS sitcom Mom, and they’re not stopping there – we’ve got more stories to come in the coming days on more of the licensing pickups, so stay tuned!

For more on everything coming up on Netflix throughout July 2025, keep it locked here on What’s on Netflix. Are you looking forward to checking out Sneaky Pete on Netflix for the first time? Let us know in the comments down below.
